William Orton swapped his Forsetti Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage GT4 for a LDR Performance Tuning Renault Clio Gen V II on Saturday 14 September, to take part in Rounds 7 & 8 of the 2024 Clio Cup Great Britain season.
Having driven the car for the first time on the Friday test day, Orton was immediately on the pace Saturday. The 19-year-old posted the fastest time of the session in qualifying, before taking the checkered flag first in both of the day’s highly-competitive races.
Adding to the impressive achievement, Orton was driving a car that his team, LDR Performance Tuning, had only taken delivery of that same week. The result showcased not only the young Brits talent, but also the capability and craftmanship of the French hatchback, which are built by manufacturer Alpine in their Dieppe factory in France.
The racing in Clio Cup GB has been both tremendously exciting and evenly-matched in 2024, with the top three finishers crossing the line less than one second apart on multiple occasions.
Attention now turns to Oulton Park for the championship’s penultimate meeting of the season on September 28, while Orton will be at Brands Hatch for the British GT season finale.
