MOTORSPORT VISION TRACKDAYS TO RUN CLIO CUP IN 2024

03 November 2023

MotorSport Vision Trackdays (MSVT) will run an all-new Clio Cup Great Britain Championship in 2024. This new addition to the MSVT racing portfolio ensures that an official one-make series for Renault Clio hatchbacks will return to British circuits for the first time in five years, reviving a concept which has previously been an enormously successful part of the national motorsport scene.

The new championship, which is subject to MotorSport UK approval, will be open exclusively to competitors running the latest 2024 Clio Cup race car, a front-wheel-drive hatchback designed specifically for life on the track. The entire package will be orientated around ensuring that drivers can showcase their individual skills. Full details of the technical package and ruleset will be confirmed shortly.

Clio Cup GB’s inaugural race calendar will take in many of the UK’s leading race tracks, with outings on the Grand Prix circuits at both Brands Hatch and Donington Park. The first event will take place at Silverstone on 13 April, with visits to Anglesey, Snetterton and Oulton Park also provisionally scheduled.

Each event will feature a single qualifying session followed by two races with a minimum length of 20 minutes. These will all run on a single day, minimising the weekend travel and accommodation costs for competitors.

The Clio Cup GB Championship joins the expansive offering from MSVT’s race organising division, alongside the eBay MSVT Trackday Trophy, Trackday Championship, Miata Trophy and EnduroKA. These platforms have enabled hundreds of recreational trackday participants to make the transition to competitive motor racing since MSVT was formed more than 15 years ago. Like those championships and series, Clio Cup GB will be operated by MSVT’s sister organisation MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR).

Championship Coordinator Stuart Garland said: “We’re absolutely delighted to announce that MSVT will run the official Clio Cup Great Britain Championship in 2024. Our racing portfolio has gone from strength to strength in recent years and this addition allows us to offer our competitors an even more direct route from grassroots competition to the world of professional motorsport.

“Our commitment to getting rookies and clubman racers into the sport remains firmly in place. But previous iterations of Clio Cup have offered a genuine proving ground for drivers aiming to reach a higher level of competition, whether in tin tops or GT racing. And this new addition is a great opportunity for those who've raced with us previously to pursue their racing dreams to an even higher level.”
