The 2024 Clio Cup GB Season Review

17 December 2024

Clio Cup action returned to British shores under the stewardship of Motorsport Vision Trackdays (MSVT) in 2024, with a twelve-round season spanning fine UK circuits.

Graves Motorsport's Nicky Taylor kickstarted his championship campaign in memorable fashion, claiming the Round 1 victory on the historic Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. Just 0.903s separated the podium finishers over the finish line, setting a season-long precedent for extremely competitive, single-make racing.

Having narrowly missed out on the win in the opening race of the season, Ben Colburn fought back to claim back-to-back victories in both Rounds 2 & 3. It was double delight for Westbourne Motorsport in Wales, as the team followed up Colburn’s victory in the first race at Anglesey’s Trac Môn with an inaugural victory for teammate Daire Flock in Round 4.

Colburn swiftly returned to the top step at Snetterton in Round 5, before Taylor utilised home circuit knowledge to take the honours in Round 6. As the championship reached its midway point, there was very little to separate the three race winners either on track or in the standings.

Taylor’s third win of the season was quickly followed by his fourth, achieving an impressive double victory at Donington Park in Rounds 7 and 8.

Round 7 would also be one to remember for LDR Performance Tuning’s Ben Jenkins, who finished third to claim his first podium of the year.

At the penultimate meeting of the season, Colburn and Taylor shared the Oulton Park spoils with a race victory apiece – setting up an intriguing championship decider at Brands Hatch.

Three drivers headed into the final meeting with the chance of securing the title. Despite a superb double victory in Kent for Flock, it was Taylor who clinched the overall championship trophy after two second-place finishes.

Ultimately, just nine points separated the two drivers in the championship standings after a captivating battle that ebbed and flowed all season long.

To relive all the excitement, every race from the championship season is available to watch on the MSVT Racing YouTube channel.
